Gary Gensler Says Good Riddance, XRP Skyrockets
The US Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) long-standing lawsuit against XRP creator Ripple Labs is very likely about to be dropped.
SEC Chair Gary Gensler announced that he will depart his position on 20 January, allowing President-elect Donald Trump to immediately select his replacement.
Trump famously wants to make America the “Crypto capital of the planet,” which will undoubtedly involve a more encouraging regulatory environment. The next SEC Chair will be a lot more friendly toward the sector than Gensler.
With that, the XRP’s price has surged in the past 24 hours, rallying 24% after being suppressed for years by the ongoing lawsuit.
“Gary Gensler’s anti-digital asset reign at the SEC will officially end in January. This is welcome news for the digital asset industry. I’m hopeful the next SEC Chair will follow the law and not try to stand in the way of financial innovation,” wrote US Senator Cynthia Lummis on X.
Meanwhile, pro-XRP lawyer John E Deaton observed that “times are changing “ and predicted that XRP will soon reach a $100 billion market cap.
At press time, XRP is worth $80 billion, making it the sixth-largest cryptocurrency.
Traders Forecast New XRP ATH
In July, market commentator Dubsy made the unsettling observation that if you’d invested $10,000 in XRP in September 2018, you’d still have the same amount of money.
That’s why we mentioned XRP’s price “being suppressed” by the SEC lawsuit. But with that out the way, traders are looking toward a bright future.
Scofield notes that XRP has broken out from a pennant pattern on the 2-hour time frame and begun to surge upwards. According to the analyst, XRP could hit $5, marking a new all-time high (ATH) for the cross-border settlement currency.
Meanwhile, prominent analyst CrediBull Crypto notes that XRP’s RSI is about to enter the overbought area for the first time in three years. He says that this is highly bullish and will catapult XRP to $2 and then toward a new ATH.
Factoring in that Bitcoin is on the brink of $100K for the first time ever, the crypto market clearly has momentum on its side.
It’s gearing for another rally in what could be an inflection point in XRP’s history. Indeed, the near-term target of $2 is first on the cards, but traders mustn’t rule out its $3.84 ATH or beyond by early 2025.
