Trump Media Reports $238M Q2 Loss as Crypto Holdings Fall $307M

Trump Media entered the second quarter with the model of a media company, but its financial results were instead dominated by bets on digital assets. The parent company of Truth Social reported a net loss of $238.1 million in the second quarter of 2026, a sharp increase from the $20 million loss recorded in the same period last year, according to its 10-Q filing. Quarterly revenue reached just $1.7 million, while the majority of the loss stemmed from declines in the value of digital assets and bitcoin-related securities.

Trump Media’s Q2 Loss Widens Sharply

Second-quarter results showed that Trump Media’s revenue remained minuscule relative to the scale of the company’s losses. For the three months ended June 30, 2026, revenue reached $1.67 million, up 89% from approximately $883,000 in the same period in 2025.

However, the Q2 net loss reached $238.1 million, compared with a $20 million loss a year earlier. The company also reported an Adjusted EBITDA loss of $223.5 million, compared to a loss of $12.8 million in the prior-year period. This is a non-GAAP metric used by Trump Media to exclude certain items such as interest expense, taxes, depreciation, and stock-based compensation.

According to the release, the majority of the quarter’s loss was non-cash, including approximately $190.4 million in unrealized losses from digital assets, pledged digital assets, and equity securities. Despite revenue growth, Trump Media’s revenue sources remained primarily from advertising, Truth+ subscriptions, and management fees from Truth.Fi, while asset markdowns continued to dominate bottom-line results.

Crypto Holdings Drive the Damage

The 10-Q filing showed that Trump Media’s digital asset segment declined sharply in the first half of the year. The digital assets line item alone fell from $904.4 million at the end of 2025 to $597.7 million as of June 30, 2026, representing a decline of approximately $306.7 million.

Including pledged or restricted digital assets, total value dropped from approximately $1.08 billion to $719.8 million. On the income statement, the company recorded $116.7 million in realized and unrealized losses from digital assets in the second quarter; for the first six months, these losses totaled $360.6 million.

Trump Media attributed the decline to period-end prices of bitcoin and Cronos across major markets. Although largely mark-to-market losses, these items flowed straight into the bottom line, making the company’s financial reporting more sensitive to crypto market volatility.

A Media Company With a Crypto-Heavy Balance Sheet

Trump Media operates Truth Social, Truth+, and Truth.Fi, but its second-quarter filing showed that the majority of the company’s financial fluctuations did not originate from its core media business. Quarterly revenue was only $1.67 million, while total assets remained at $2.02 billion as of June 30.

The company stated it holds approximately $1.9 billion in financial assets, including cash, short-term investments, equity securities, and digital assets. Cash and short-term investments alone stood at approximately $424.6 million, showing that Trump Media still retains significant financial resources despite reporting large losses.

This structure distinguishes Trump Media from a typical social media company: in any given quarter, investment fluctuations can overshadow growth from media operations.

Truth API Becomes the New Revenue Bet

Following a quarter dominated by asset markdowns, Trump Media is putting Truth API at the center of its revenue expansion plans. Launched on August 1, 2026, the product was introduced as a commercial data licensing service for enterprise clients, providing high-speed access to public posts from several high-profile accounts on Truth Social.

Truth API had secured more than 10 customer agreements by the time Trump Media announced its second-quarter results. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said the product has begun generating revenue and that the company will continue to add partners. AP quoted McGurn as saying the service carries a fee of approximately $60,000–$100,000 per month, with customers primarily consisting of high-frequency trading firms.

At that price point, Truth API could quickly become a substantial revenue stream if client retention is maintained. However, the product is also sensitive because Truth Social is a frequent publishing platform for President Donald Trump, whose statements can impact financial markets.

Additionally, Trump Media rejected criticisms surrounding Truth API, arguing that providing public data under commercial licensing is a common practice across the technology, media, and financial information industries.

Debt, TAE Merger and the Road Ahead

As of June 30, Trump Media recorded approximately $970.3 million in debt, excluding lease obligations. In its 10-Q filing, the company noted that it may need to refinance convertible notes if bondholders exercise their right to demand cash redemption in November 2026.

Trump Media said its existing funds are sufficient to fund operations for at least 12 months, but it may need to raise additional capital for acquisitions, investments, or strategic expansions.

The company also continues to pursue its proposed merger with TAE Technologies, a fusion energy enterprise, aiming for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
