Key Takeaways

Strategy will add $250 yearly to eligible employees’ children’s accounts.Strategy will match the Treasury’s $1,000 seed for qualifying newborns.Strategy’s program starts after Treasury finalizes employer guidance.

The Tysons Corner, Virginia-based company told the public on Wednesday that it will deposit $250 annually for every eligible child under 18, regardless of the child’s birth date. For children born on or after Jan. 1, 2025, Strategy will also provide a one-time $1,000 payment matching the federal government’s opening contribution.

Strategy Broadens Its Family Benefits

The benefit covers eligible children of Strategy’s U.S. workforce and will start after the Treasury Department finishes its employer-contribution system and releases final operating instructions once the machinery is finally ready to operate.

Strategy, formerly known as Microstrategy, is best known as the world’s largest corporate holder of bitcoin. The company also runs an enterprise analytics software business and trades publicly through its MSTR common shares and multiple preferred securities. Strategy sold 1,638 BTC this past week, but still holds 842,138 BTC. The firm is the largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder.

The decision places a company synonymous with bitcoin inside a federal program built around conventional U.S. stock-market investments. Money held in Trump Accounts generally must be invested in qualifying funds tracking broad indexes made up primarily of American companies.

“Trump Accounts and the Invest America initiative can help build a stronger financial future for America’s children,” Strategy President and CEO Phong Le remarked.

The executive added:

“Strategy will match the government’s initial $1,000 contribution and provide additional annual contributions for eligible employees’ children. We are also impressed by the thoughtful technology making these accounts simple and accessible for families. These accounts can encourage financial education, long term thinking, and a culture of saving and investing from an early age. Those goals are closely aligned with Strategy’s values and our optimism about the future.”

Trump Accounts Funnel Children Into Markets

The newly launched Trump Accounts, formally created under Section 530A of the federal tax code, are tax-deferred individual retirement accounts designed for children. Tax-deferred means investment earnings generally avoid taxation while the money remains inside the account.

A child must have a Social Security number and stay under 18 through the end of the year when the account is opened. A parent, guardian, or another authorized adult controls the account while the child remains a minor.

Children who are U.S. citizens and were born from Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028, can receive a one-time $1,000 Treasury deposit after an account is correctly opened. Contributions started July 4, 2026.

Families, friends, and employers can add money to Trump Accounts within federal limits. Total nonexempt contributions are generally capped at $5,000 yearly, while employers may supply up to $2,500 annually for an employee or an employee’s dependent. Employer payments count toward the wider $5,000 ceiling but are generally excluded from the employee’s taxable income.

Investment Rules Lock Down Early Access

During the account’s growth period, funds must sit in qualifying low-cost mutual funds or exchange-traded funds. These products combine investors’ money and distribute it across numerous U.S. companies, limiting exposure to the fate of any single stock.

Children generally cannot withdraw funds before Jan. 1 of the year they turn 18, except under narrow circumstances. After the restricted period ends, the account generally functions like a traditional individual retirement account, with taxes and potential penalties applying to withdrawals under standard IRA rules.

The structure gives contributions years to compound. Compounding happens when investment gains begin producing further returns, though account balances can still drop sharply when stock markets fall.

Employers Pile Into the Federal Push

Strategy is taking the Invest America Business Pledge beside dozens of banks, technology companies, and financial firms backing Trump Accounts through employee benefits, account services, or philanthropic funding. The Treasury Department previously named companies, including tech and financial heavyweights like Bank of America, Blackrock, Block, Coinbase, JPMorgan Chase, Nvidia, Robinhood, and Visa as participants.

Strategy explained that it unveiled its commitment internally during a quarterly company meeting. It expects to issue enrollment instructions before the benefit goes live. Employees and families can monitor the Treasury Department’s final employer rules, Strategy’s enrollment timeline, and details showing how its annual payments will interact with contributions supplied by parents or other relatives.
