Kalshi Hits $40 Billion Valuation After Another $1 Billion Raise

Kalshi’s $40 Billion Valuation Puts Prediction Markets in Wall Street’s Big Leagues

Kalshi has pulled off a financial feat that would have sounded far-fetched just a few years ago: A company built around trading the outcomes of elections, sporting events, and economic announcements is now valued at $40 billion.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, the New York-based prediction-market operator disclosed a fresh $1 billion funding round to Reuters, its second billion-dollar haul in roughly five months.

The new valuation represents a nearly 82% jump from May’s $22 billion figure. But the bigger story isn’t simply the money. The prediction marketplace giant Kalshi is preparing to take on Wall Street’s established derivatives giants, even as state regulators challenge its sports business.

Another Billion Dollars Pours Into Kalshi

Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management co-led the latest financing, with Tiger Global Management and Dragoneer Investment Group also participating, Reuters reported. The investment follows a $1 billion Coatue-led round in May and continues an extraordinary climb in Kalshi’s private-market valuation. The company was valued at approximately $5 billion in October 2025 and $11 billion last December. Barely a year later, investors have assigned it a $40 billion price tag.

Founded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) classmates Tarek Mansour and Luana Lopes Lara, Kalshi operates a federally regulated exchange where traders purchase contracts tied to future events. A contract priced at 65 cents, for instance, generally indicates a market-implied 65% probability of the outcome occurring.

The business gained considerable attention during the 2024 presidential election, when prediction markets attracted billions in trading activity and drew mainstream interest for their assessments of Donald Trump’s chances of victory.

Kalshi Takes Aim at Wall Street’s Derivatives Heavyweights

The latest funding puts Kalshi in a position to challenge established operators, including CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange. The company has already taken the wraps off cryptocurrency perpetual futures and expanded into equity indexes and metals following regulatory approval. Its ambitions extend to individual-stock perpetuals, leveraged event contracts and markets tied to computing prices.

Trading activity provides some explanation for investors’ enthusiasm. At the time of May’s financing, Kalshi reported that annualized volume had more than tripled over six months, climbing from approximately $52 billion to $178 billion. Institutional activity had climbed 800%, and by September, the company said it worked with 500 institutional entities accounting for roughly one-quarter of trading volume, excluding market makers.

The broader prediction-market industry has undergone a similar transformation. Annual trading volume expanded from approximately $500 million in 2022 to more than $63 billion in 2025, according to figures in the supplied research.

Sports Contracts Draw Regulatory Fire

Not everyone is cheering Kalshi’s expansion. State authorities have challenged the company’s sports-related event contracts, arguing that they constitute gambling subject to state oversight rather than derivatives governed exclusively by federal regulators. The dispute threatens a lucrative business line. Sports contracts have reportedly accounted for approximately 65% of Kalshi’s revenue at certain points, making adverse court decisions potentially expensive.

Some appellate rulings have favored state authority, while Mansour has suggested the dispute could eventually reach the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, competition with crypto-native rival Polymarket continues to intensify. Kalshi reportedly captured approximately 72% of trading volume across major prediction-market venues during the third quarter of 2026, benefiting from sports activity and distribution through established brokerage platforms.

A $40 Billion Bet With an IPO on the Horizon

Kalshi’s leadership has discussed eventually pursuing an initial public offering (IPO), although Mansour has ruled out a 2026 debut. Subsequent commentary has pointed toward 2027 or 2028 as possible windows, depending on market conditions and regulatory developments.

For now, the company has another $1 billion to fund expansion, technology, and compliance. Its investors are betting that an exchange built around yes-or-no questions can become a major financial marketplace. The courts, however, still have some questions of their own.
