Circle’s EURC hits €400M in circulation, dominating euro stablecoins with MiCA compliance and expanded blockchain integrations.
Circle’s euro-backed stablecoin, EURC, has surpassed €400 million in circulation, cementing its position as the leading euro-denominated stablecoin. This milestone, announced on August 17, 2026, marks a 5x growth over the past year, driven by increasing adoption following the rollout of the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation and expanded blockchain integrations.
EURC now accounts for over 50% of the euro stablecoin market, which itself has grown to approximately €650 million as of mid-2026, according to data from DeFi Llama. The stablecoin’s market capitalization stands at $443 million, with trading pairs on major exchanges like Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitstamp bolstering liquidity for euro and dollar conversions.
Driving Euro Stablecoin Adoption
Launched on Ethereum in mid-2022, EURC expanded to chains like Avalanche, Stellar, Solana, and Base in 2023 and beyond, tapping into ecosystems with robust developer activity and liquidity. By late 2024, EURC’s supply had reached €80 million, but it was the clarity provided by MiCA in 2025 that unlocked institutional adoption. The regulation, which sets stringent requirements for reserve backing, governance, and redemption rights, positioned EURC as a compliant, trustworthy option for enterprises and institutions seeking euro-denominated digital money.
Circle’s operational transparency has also been pivotal. EURC reserves are fully segregated and attested monthly by independent third parties, while authorized users can redeem EURC 1:1 for euros via Circle’s Mint platform. This aligns with the full-reserve standards required under MiCA, boosting confidence among institutional players.
Integration into Financial Infrastructure
The real-world utility of EURC has been a key driver of its growth. Payment providers like MoonPay, Transak, and Mercuryo have integrated EURC, enabling users to bypass the inefficiencies of dollar conversions. Custody platforms such as Fireblocks, Copper, and Cobo have incorporated EURC into their offerings, making it easier for institutions to use the stablecoin for treasury management and settlement.
Major payment networks have also taken notice. Visa and Mastercard expanded their stablecoin settlement capabilities in 2025 to include EURC, opening new use cases for cross-border payments, card-linked transactions, and euro-native merchant settlement. By mid-2026, these integrations had transformed EURC from a niche product into a vital tool for faster reconciliation and programmable money flows.
Market Outlook
Despite EURC’s rapid growth, the addressable market remains vast. The eurozone’s M2 money supply exceeds €16 trillion, while euro stablecoins represent less than 0.01% of that total. With structural advantages such as real-time settlement and lower operational costs, euro stablecoins like EURC are well-positioned to capture a larger share of the financial market as infrastructure matures and regulatory clarity drives broader adoption.
EURC’s dominance in the euro stablecoin category reflects Circle’s strategic focus on compliance, transparency, and usability. As the European crypto ecosystem continues to evolve, EURC’s role as a cornerstone of the digital euro economy appears increasingly secure.
