In brief
LaLiga Golazos, an NFT platform based on the popular Spanish soccer league, will launch in closed beta on October 27.
Dapper Labs developed the Flow-based platform, which follows the format of NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day.
Following the path of NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day, Dapper Labs’ previously announced NFT platform based on the LaLiga Spanish soccer league will launch in closed beta later this month.
The marketplace, called LaLiga Golazos, will open up to select users on October 27 and drop its first pack on that date. Both Top Shot and All Day held months-long closed beta tests that gradually added more and more users before eventually opening to the wider public.
Like those other sports offerings, LaLiga Golazos will sell NFT collectibles minted on the Dapper-created Flow blockchain, with video highlights turned into trading card-like assets that can then be sold and traded. Dapper’s tie-up with LaLiga was first announced in September 2021, with the platform originally due to debut this past summer.
LaLiga Golazos—”golazos” means “spectacular goal” in Spanish—will sell bilingual NFTs that include play-by-play narration, player performance details, and match statistics in both English and Spanish. This is Dapper’s first fully bilingual NFT offering. The platform’s collectibles will span notable moments from the league from 2005 until today.
The first digital pack of NFT collectibles, releasing on October 27, will feature moments pulled from notable LaLiga rivalries like El Clásico (FC Barcelona vs. Real Madrid CF), the Madrid Derby (Real Madrid CF vs. Atlético de Madrid), the Basque Derby (Real Sociedad vs Athletic Club), and the El Gran Derbi (Real Betis vs Sevilla FC).
An NFT is a blockchain token that proves ownership of an item—in this case, a digital collectible with a unique edition number. Other popular NFT use cases include profile pictures, digital artwork, and video game items. The NFT market swelled to $25 billion worth of trading volume in 2021, in part due to NBA Top Shot’s early-year success and mainstream recognition.
Atlético de Madrid forward João Félix, FC Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, Real Madrid CF midfielder Luka Modrić, and FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen have signed on to promote the LaLiga Golazos launch and will be featured in marketing materials.
