Conflux (CFX) is rolling out v3.1.0 testnet hardfork by Aug 7, implementing 7 CIPs, security updates, and RPC changes. Node updates required.

Conflux (CFX) has announced the rollout of its v3.1.0 testnet hardfork, scheduled to go live before the network reaches epoch 259240000, estimated on August 7, 2026. The upgrade introduces modifications across seven Conflux Improvement Proposals (CIPs), a security patch withheld until post-activation, and significant RPC changes. Node operators must upgrade their software or risk incompatibility with the network.

The most notable technical updates include CIP-173, which addresses Proof-of-Stake (PoS) dispute evidence verification and extends stake lock mechanisms. Additionally, CIP-166 and CIP-167 enhance Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, while CIP-172 through CIP-176 resolve bugs impacting transaction encoding, gas pricing, and cross-space calls. The upgrade also fixes critical vulnerabilities, the details of which will be disclosed after implementation to prevent exploitation.

From a node operator’s perspective, the update process involves replacing configuration files and restarting nodes. Operators who fail to upgrade by the deadline will face issues like block synchronization and transaction validation failures, rendering their nodes effectively obsolete. The first restart after the upgrade may take longer due to MPT snapshot rebuilding, as outlined in the release instructions.

Key CIPs and Their Impact

CIP-166 introduces the CLZ opcode for counting leading zeros, reflecting Ethereum’s EIP-7939. CIP-167, aligned with EIP-7951, adds precompiled support for secp256r1 curve signature verification—a critical feature for WebAuthn and passkey-based authentication systems. On the bug-fix side, CIP-172 mandates canonical RLP encoding for transactions, addressing hash duplication risks.

Meanwhile, CIP-174 and CIP-175 improve gas efficiency and cross-space delegation, tackling issues that previously hampered dApp functionality. CIP-176 resolves an edge case in access list handling, improving smart contract execution reliability.

Market Context

Conflux’s native token, CFX, is trading at $0.0406 as of August 3, 2026, with a market cap of $305.12 million. Although the token has seen a slight 24-hour dip of 0.03%, the hardfork could catalyze renewed interest in the network. The broader Conflux ecosystem has been expanding, with recent developments like OKX listing CFX and institutional integration via Fireblocks adding to its credentials as a scalable Layer-1 blockchain.

Conflux’s hybrid Proof-of-Work (PoW) and PoS consensus model, combined with its dual-space architecture (Core Space and EVM-compatible eSpace), positions it as a unique alternative to Ethereum. The network’s ability to handle high transaction throughput while maintaining decentralization is a key differentiator, particularly for developers seeking a scalable platform for decentralized applications.

Forward-Looking Implications

With the v3.1.0 testnet hardfork introducing critical performance and security enhancements, Conflux aims to strengthen its position in the competitive Layer-1 blockchain space. The activation of CIP-173 on August 8 will serve as a critical milestone, and the deferred disclosure of the security patch could attract scrutiny. Node operators and developers should prioritize timely upgrades to avoid disruptions and leverage the enhanced functionality.

As the crypto markets digest these updates, traders and long-term investors may want to monitor CFX closely for signs of increased adoption or price movement following the hardfork’s completion.
