Circle’s CCTP now supports EURC transfers, reducing fragmentation and enhancing crosschain euro-backed stablecoin liquidity.

Circle has expanded its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to include EURC, the company’s euro-backed stablecoin. Announced on September 2, 2026, this marks a significant step in Circle’s effort to streamline crosschain asset transfers by extending its burn-and-mint interoperability model beyond USDC.

By integrating EURC into CCTP, users and developers can now move euro-denominated liquidity natively across supported blockchains, starting with Ethereum and Base. This eliminates the need for fragmented bridge infrastructures or synthetic tokens, offering a unified system for transferring both USDC and EURC.

“This is the next evolution of CCTP,” Circle stated, emphasizing its commitment to enabling seamless crosschain settlements. The burn-and-mint mechanism works by destroying EURC on the source chain and minting an equivalent amount on the destination chain. This ensures that the EURC received is native to the destination blockchain, not a wrapped or synthetic version. For developers, this simplifies integration and reduces operational complexity.

EURC, issued by Circle Internet Financial Europe SAS, is pegged to the euro. As of September 2, 2026, EURC is trading at $1.16, reflecting a 1.97% 24-hour price increase, with a market cap of $465 million. Its USD price primarily fluctuates in line with EUR/USD exchange rates, making it less susceptible to crypto-market volatility compared to other stablecoins. By adding crosschain compatibility, Circle aims to increase EURC’s utility across decentralized finance (DeFi) and other blockchain ecosystems.

Circle’s interoperability push follows its broader strategy to reduce risks associated with traditional bridging systems, such as liquidity fragmentation and vulnerabilities tied to third-party custodian models. Unlike lock-and-mint bridges, where assets are locked on one chain and a synthetic representation is minted on another, CCTP’s approach ensures that all EURC tokens on supported chains are issued by Circle, maintaining uniform liquidity and trust.

This crosschain expansion comes amid growing demand for stablecoin interoperability. Earlier this year, Circle launched CCTP on Stellar and Cronos, signaling its ongoing efforts to enhance multichain accessibility for its products. With EURC now supported, Circle has made a strong case for its platform as a reliable solution for native stablecoin transfers across major blockchains.

For traders and DeFi users, the implications are clear: EURC’s crosschain functionality could pave the way for more efficient liquidity deployment, faster settlements, and reduced reliance on intermediaries. As Circle hinted, more assets and capabilities are likely to follow, potentially broadening the scope of its interoperability infrastructure.

While the system simplifies crosschain transfers, users should be aware of certain risks. CCTP relies on Circle’s offchain attestation service and smart contracts for validation, which introduces a semi-trusted model. Additionally, transfers are irreversible, and Circle does not recover assets sent to incorrect addresses. Users and developers must remain diligent when interacting with the protocol.

Circle’s focus on expanding CCTP reflects a broader trend in blockchain technology: the drive toward seamless, trust-minimized interoperability. With EURC now in the mix, the euro-backed stablecoin could see increased adoption, particularly in European DeFi markets where demand for euro-denominated liquidity remains robust.
