Bitdeer Cranks up Bitcoin Mining Power While Rivals Stampede Into AI

Key Takeaways

Bitdeer deploys 28 MW and 1.93 EH/s at Soluna’s Kati 1 beginning in September 2026.Soluna keeps 83 MW Kati 1 focused on bitcoin mining while Kati 2 and Dorothy 3 chase artificial intelligence (AI) demand.Bitdeer targets 350 MW of AI capacity by Q1 2028 while continuing to add BTC hashpower.

Bitdeer Sends Its Own Mining Fleet Into Soluna’s Texas Wind Farm

Under the deal announced Aug. 25, Bitdeer subsidiary Dory Creek will install company-owned Sealminer A2 Pro Air machines at Soluna’s Project Kati 1 in Willacy County. Deployment starts in September and ramps up in batches, putting the hardware inside the facility’s K1BC phase.

Project Kati 1 is an 83 MW wind-powered data center that booked its first gross profit during the second quarter of 2026. The publicly traded firm Soluna currently runs 192 MW of data center capacity across Texas and Kentucky, with another 14 MW under construction at Kati 1 and a development pipeline totaling 6.3 gigawatts.

This is not the usual plug-in-the-miners-and-collect-rent hosting contract. Soluna brings the site, electricity, and daily operations, while Bitdeer owns and supplies the mining machines. Rather than pocketing a straightforward hosting fee, both companies split the bitcoin mining proceeds produced by the deployment.

That puts Soluna closer to the economics of actually mining bitcoin without writing the check for application-specific integrated circuit, or ASIC, machines. Bitdeer gets the opposite advantage, adding computing power without spending years securing land, interconnections and another power site.

Bitcoin Mining Keeps Humming Beside Bitdeer’s AI Machine

The deal lands while bitcoin miners are increasingly steering precious megawatts toward artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing, or HPC, chasing better economics from existing power portfolios. Bitdeer is chasing that money too, but its growing AI operation has hardly pushed bitcoin mining aside.

Bitdeer reported 73 EH/s of self-mining capacity and another 15.9 EH/s committed to co-mining in its June 2026 operational update. The company controlled roughly 243,000 self-mining rigs and produced 990 bitcoin during June, up 388% year over year, while second-quarter production hit 2,694 bitcoin.

Bitdeer (Nasdaq: BTDR) has increased more than 21% over the last five days but 30 day statistic show BTDR in the red with a percentage loss of 8.9%.

Bitdeer’s recent operational updates shared on X have revealed bitcoin production numbers, but there is an important catch: the BTC mined belongs to Bitdeer customers rather than the company itself. The Soluna deployment bolts another roughly 1.93 EH/s onto that co-mining machine.

Bitdeer builds its own Sealminer hardware, then can ship those machines into third-party facilities where someone else has already handled the expensive work of securing power, infrastructure and operations. Meanwhile, Bitdeer is spending heavily on AI.

Its plans include Nvidia GB300 NVL72 computing capacity in Malaysia, where a five-year agreement covering roughly half of a 9.5 MW facility carries about $400 million in contracted revenue. Bitdeer is targeting up to 350 MW of AI cloud data center capacity by the first quarter of 2028.

Bitdeer also holds a $4.7 billion, 16-year AI and HPC lease covering 121 MW of information technology capacity in Tydal, Norway. The strategy is becoming hard to miss: bitcoin mining keeps producing revenue while the company builds a much larger, longer-duration AI business.

Kati 1 Stays on Bitcoin While Soluna Builds Its AI Bet Elsewhere

For Soluna, the Bitdeer agreement is not another bitcoin facility being gutted and converted into an AI GPU farm. Galaxy Digital occupies 48 MW of Kati 1 for bitcoin mining operations as well, while Bitdeer’s deployment consumes much of the campus’s remaining mining capacity.

Soluna Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLNH) is down 4.5% over the last five days and over the past month, SLNH has shed 13% against the U.S. dollar.

Soluna’s separate Kati 2 and Dorothy 3 projects are being positioned for AI and HPC development. That split lets Soluna chase the AI buildout without sacrificing Kati 1’s existing bitcoin economics or leaving energized mining infrastructure waiting for another customer.

September is the next test, when Bitdeer begins installing its Sealminer fleet in batches. Investors will be watching how fast the 28 MW comes online, what the shared-revenue model actually produces, and whether Soluna takes co-mining elsewhere as bitcoin and AI increasingly fight over the same valuable megawatts.
