Anthropic’s Mythos AI model found no critical vulnerabilities in Zcash after a recent exploit. ZEC price stabilizes at $422.86, up 2.48%.
Zcash (ZEC) has received a clean bill of health from a security audit conducted by Anthropic’s Mythos AI model. According to Zcash co-founder Zooko Wilcox, the audit uncovered no serious vulnerabilities in the privacy-focused blockchain protocol, reassuring the crypto community after a recent exploit raised concerns.
The audit, commissioned by Shielded Labs, followed the discovery of a critical forgery bug in Zcash’s Orchard shielded pool earlier this month. The bug, which had existed undetected for four years, was identified by security researcher Taylor Hornby with assistance from Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 model. Although the vulnerability could have allowed undetectable counterfeit ZEC creation, the Zcash Foundation confirmed there was no evidence of exploitation or user privacy breaches. The issue was patched via an emergency upgrade on June 3, 2026, restoring functionality to the network.
Zcash Stabilizes as Market Watches Ironwood Upgrade
As of June 14, 2026, Zcash is trading at $422.86, up 2.48% over the past 24 hours, with a market capitalization of $6.64 billion. The token has been on a recovery trajectory since the exploit triggered a sharp selloff earlier in June, with ZEC losing up to 55% of its value at its lowest point. The recent positive audit results appear to have helped stabilize sentiment.
Looking ahead, much of Zcash’s near-term outlook hinges on the successful implementation of the “Ironwood” network upgrade. Approved on June 12, 2026, the upgrade aims to migrate users to a new shielded pool with enhanced security features and enable public verification that no excess ZEC exists. Ironwood is scheduled for activation in late July 2026, with ongoing audits and formal verification to ensure robustness.
AI’s Double-Edged Role in Crypto Security
The use of advanced AI models like Anthropic’s Mythos underscores the evolving role of machine learning in blockchain security. While these tools have proven effective in identifying vulnerabilities, their proliferation has also raised concerns. For example, Anthropic recently suspended public access to its Mythos and Fable 5 models due to a U.S. government directive citing national security risks.
Mitchell Amador, CEO of crypto-focused bug bounty platform Immunefi, warned that AI advancements could shift the cybersecurity landscape in favor of bad actors. April 2026 saw $634 million lost to crypto hacks, the highest monthly total since the Bybit exploit in February 2025.
For Zcash, the balance between leveraging AI for defense and mitigating its potential misuse remains a critical challenge. With the Ironwood upgrade on the horizon, Zcash developers are under pressure to demonstrate resilience in the face of increasingly sophisticated threats.
