Samsung Brings USDC Transfers to 82M Galaxy Devices

Samsung is bringing stablecoin transfers directly into Samsung Wallet, potentially putting crypto-powered cross-border payments in front of 82 million Galaxy devices in the United States.

Starting in the last week of October 2026, eligible U.S. users will be able to send Circle’s USDC to compatible crypto wallets or qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries. The move represents one of the biggest efforts yet by a major smartphone manufacturer to bring stablecoins into everyday payments.

Samsung Brings USDC Transfers to Galaxy Phones

The new feature will be integrated into Samsung Wallet, which already handles cards, digital IDs, boarding passes and other credentials. Samsung says users will not need a separate crypto app or have to manage private keys to make transfers.

“Sending money abroad should feel as convenient as using the wallet already on your phone,” Woncheol Chai, Samsung Electronics’ head of its Digital Wallet Team, said.

Tokenmetrics

The service is expected to reach 82 million compatible Galaxy devices in the U.S., giving stablecoins a distribution channel that crypto companies have traditionally struggled to build.

Users can send USDC to supported external wallets or eligible bank accounts in more than 60 countries. For bank transfers, recipients can receive the money in their local currency, meaning they may not need to own cryptocurrency themselves.

Samsung will not charge fees for USDC transfers to compatible external wallets, although receiving wallets or exchanges may charge their own fees. Bank transfers will have separate charges based on the destination and transaction amount, with Samsung Wallet showing the applicable fee and estimated delivery time before confirmation.

Solana and Sui Power the Blockchain Layer

Samsung is relying on several partners to handle the underlying infrastructure.

Solana and Sui will provide blockchain network support, while Bastion will supply regulated stablecoin infrastructure. Coinbase will serve as Bastion’s sub-custodian, safeguarding USDC through Coinbase Prime Vault.

The structure allows Samsung to focus on the consumer experience while its partners handle custody, compliance and money movement.

Samsung also clarified that it is not a bank, money transmitter or digital-asset custodian. Customer funds and stablecoins will be managed through its regulated partners.

For security, biometric authentication on the registered Galaxy device will be required before users can initiate transfers.

Stablecoins Move Into Mainstream Remittances

The partnership comes as stablecoins become increasingly important for cross-border payments.

USDC, issued by Circle, is one of the largest dollar-pegged stablecoins and is widely used across crypto markets and institutional applications. Its blockchain-based design allows dollar-denominated value to move across borders without relying entirely on traditional banking rails.

Samsung’s approach targets one of crypto’s biggest adoption barriers: complexity.

Sending stablecoins typically requires setting up a wallet, securing private keys, buying tokens and understanding blockchain addresses. Samsung is attempting to remove much of that friction by placing the process inside an application millions of Galaxy users already have.

“Stablecoins have the potential to make moving money around the world faster and easier,” Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation, said. She added that stablecoins had demonstrated the efficiency of blockchain for moving money, while mainstream distribution remained a major challenge.

Samsung could provide that missing distribution layer.

Samsung’s Broader Stablecoin Ambitions

The U.S. rollout also builds on Samsung’s wider plans for digital-dollar payments. The company previously said it was exploring stablecoin savings and payment features across its Galaxy ecosystem.

The October launch is its first major consumer deployment of that strategy.

The significance goes beyond the number of supported devices. Instead of requiring consumers to enter the crypto ecosystem themselves, Samsung is bringing blockchain-based payments into a familiar mobile wallet.

That could make the technology particularly useful for remittances. A sender in the U.S. could send USDC while a recipient abroad receives local currency in an eligible bank account, potentially simplifying the traditional cross-border payment process.

However, eligibility remains limited. Users must be 18 or older, live in the U.S., have a Samsung Account and use a compatible Galaxy device running Android 13 or later. Identity verification and biometric authentication are also required.

Supported countries, networks and recipient accounts will determine where transfers are available, while sanctioned jurisdictions remain excluded.

A Potential New Model for Crypto Payments

Samsung’s move could be significant not simply because it supports USDC, but because it makes the underlying crypto infrastructure largely invisible to users.

Consumers do not necessarily need to understand blockchain networks or even think of the transaction as a crypto payment. If the experience works as intended, sending money abroad could feel closer to using a conventional mobile payment service.

Samsung has not announced when the feature will expand beyond the U.S. Future expansion will depend on local regulations and the availability of banking and stablecoin partners.

The company has also indicated that its ambitions extend beyond remittances, with potential future support for online payments and tap-to-pay transactions on eligible Galaxy devices.

If those plans materialize, Samsung Wallet could evolve from a digital wallet for cards and credentials into a broader payment platform where stablecoins operate quietly in the background.

For now, the October launch will test whether mainstream smartphone users are ready to adopt blockchain payments when they no longer need to think like crypto users to use them.
