Clearpool Links Token Migration to XRP Ledger Expansion
Institutional borrowers and lenders could gain another route into XRP Ledger-based credit under an expansion and token restructuring proposed by Clearpool. The decentralized credit marketplace shared the plan on X on Sept. 11, describing XRPL as an established network where institutional lending remains largely undeveloped.
Clearpool stated:
“Clearpool is entering its next growth phase, expanding to the XRP Ledger.”
The company plans to build lending infrastructure natively on XRPL while seeking community approval for a treasury recapitalization and migration from CPOOL to a new token called CLEAR.
The expansion follows an institutional credit initiative involving Ripple and Cicada Partners. Under that arrangement, Clearpool is building the lending infrastructure, Cicada is responsible for loan origination and credit management, and Ripple will provide investment capital alongside other limited partners. Clearpool says its platforms have facilitated more than $965 million in institutional loans since 2021.
CLEAR Proposal Would Rebuild Token Supply and Treasury
Existing CPOOL holders would receive CLEAR through a proposed 1:1 migration, preserving their token count during the conversion. Clearpool cited exhausted growth reserves and a CPOOL supply that is nearly fully vested as reasons for recapitalization.
Protocol revenue would also support a proposed buyback-and-burn program for CLEAR. The proposed model would direct half of protocol fees toward buying CLEAR on the open market and permanently removing those tokens from circulation.
Community members will receive a 14-day discussion period before the proposal proceeds to a tokenholder vote through Snapshot. Until that governance process concludes, the migration, allocations, supply schedule, and treasury recapitalization remain proposed terms rather than approved token changes.
XRPL Lending Features Still Require Network Approval
Clearpool’s roadmap names XDC Network and Ripple as the first institutional ecosystems for its expansion beyond existing networks, and lists support for RLUSD and other institutional stablecoins. The XRPL product would use the ledger’s proposed XLS-65 Single Asset Vault and XLS-66 Lending Protocol standards, with loans denominated in RLUSD.
Single Asset Vaults pool one asset, while the Lending Protocol handles loan origination, interest, repayment schedules, and default conditions. Ripple’s description of the architecture keeps underwriting and compliance decisions offchain while standardizing agreed loan terms onchain.
Both amendments remain subject to XRP Ledger validator approval before they can operate on mainnet. Clearpool has been testing its integration on Devnet, where transactions carry no monetary value, while the proposed mainnet system would use XRPL features for participant credentials and permissioned access. The lending framework is designed for fixed-term institutional credit rather than automated, overcollateralized lending commonly associated with decentralized finance.
Broader interest in native XRP lending has already emerged among institutional participants. XRP treasury company Evernorth has identified the upcoming lending protocol as part of its digital asset strategy, targeting fixed-rate loans without wrapping XRP or transferring assets to another blockchain.
General decentralized lending allows asset holders to supply cryptocurrency to lending markets in exchange for borrower-funded interest, although Clearpool’s planned XRPL model centers on underwritten institutional credit.
