Five New Ways to Bet on Bitcoin Treasuries
Bitfinex Securities, the tokenized-asset arm of crypto exchange Bitfinex, unveiled five new products this week that track the economic performance of publicly traded bitcoin treasury companies without handing investors actual shares. The lineup includes a Strategy Note (CMSTR), a note tied to Strategy’s variable-rate perpetual preferred stock (STRCst), a Metaplanet Note (CMPTL), Sweden’s H100 Group (CH100), and France’s Capital B (CALCPB). Bitfinex Securities called it the first time such products have been available for secondary trading on a regulated tokenized securities exchange.
Each note is issued through ORO (II), a Luxembourg umbrella securitization fund managed by SICOS Securities, and is backed by the underlying shares, which are held with regulated financial institutions. Buying a note doesn’t confer direct ownership of Strategy or Metaplanet stock. Instead, holders get synthetic exposure to how those shares move. Bitfinex Securities says the products can be traded against the U.S. dollar, USDT or BTC, with a minimum exposure of roughly $1, and are open only to eligible investors outside the United States.
A Bet on Corporate Bitcoin Holders
Since entering the fray, Strategy has remained the largest corporate bitcoin holder by a wide margin, with a treasury of 845,050 BTC, and its stock has effectively traded as a leveraged proxy for bitcoin’s price ever since Michael Saylor turned the former software firm into a bitcoin-accumulation vehicle.
Metaplanet has followed a similar playbook in Japan, while H100 and Capital B represent smaller but growing versions of the same bet in Sweden and France. Wrapping all four into tradable notes means an investor anywhere in the eligible market can now get synthetic exposure to that trade with a few dollars, without touching a traditional brokerage account.
Part of a Bigger Tokenization Push
The listing follows Bitfinex Securities’ $50 million tokenized capital raise for metals company Alkemya in August, and pushes the platform’s total listed assets past $500 million. It’s a sign that the tokenized-securities niche, long dominated by pilot projects and small raises, is starting to attract recognizable, large-cap names.
Whether the notes gain real trading volume will depend on how bitcoin’s price behaves in the months ahead. Strategy and Metaplanet shares tend to swing hard with BTC, and a tokenized wrapper doesn’t change that underlying volatility, it just makes it easier to access.
What These Notes Are and Aren’t
Because ORO (II) holds the underlying shares and issues the tokens against them, buyers are exposed to the same price swings a Strategy or Metaplanet shareholder would see, minus voting rights, direct custody and the usual protections that come with holding equity through a regulated brokerage.
