Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced today that the electric vehicle maker will discontinue one-time purchases of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software, making it available only through a monthly subscription.
“Tesla will stop selling FSD after Feb 14,” Musk said via his official X account. “FSD will only be available as a monthly subscription thereafter.”
Tesla shares dipped nearly 3% as of midday as investors reacted to the shift toward a $99-per-month subscription model for its Full Self-Driving software.
The change comes amid broader challenges for Tesla’s autonomous ambitions. The company has rolled out limited robotaxi services in Austin and other cities but still trails competitors like Alphabet’s Waymo in fully driverless operations.
The company also reported a 16% year-over-year decline in Q4 deliveries and a 5.5% drop in production, marking its second straight annual dip.
